How to practice Slow Living Lifestyle and Enjoy Life
Today’s topic gives you tips to practice a slow-living lifestyle. We, humans, are naturally restless. We are constantly trying to get things done quickly so we can feel happy and accomplished. But are we delighted after that task is over?
Maybe not! We feel overwhelmed and anxiously wait to get the next task done.
Being in rush mode hinders us to enjoy the beauties of our lives that we can do slowly. Though it is valid with modernity, civilization, and the use of technologies people are programmed to work fast with a target-oriented lifestyle.
But to take things slow and enjoy the present being connected is very helpful for your overall well-being and personal development
What is Slow Living?
The term slow living is a type of life where you slow down only to enjoy or be mindful of the surroundings. You are not supposed to stop your tasks but adopt a few healthy habits that will enable you to live with more intention and connection.
The practice of slow living is not the same for everyone. It is based on individuals’ choices and goals. This is all about your daily activities becoming more relaxing and mindful.
Let’s now get to know what the simple steps are to embrace and practice a slow-living lifestyle for enhancing our happiness!
1. Have a quiet time for yourself
A silent and quiet time is very healthy and soothing for your mind to concentrate on the tasks that you are doing. This way you can practice a slow living lifestyle.
A chaotic atmosphere may be pleasant for some time but will not be able to give you focus and poise. Give yourself a time of the day when you are completely in a state of peace and silence.
Feel that silence in your body and mind. It sets a base for you to be more focused on your daily task and sets an intention.
2. Live in your present
When you start living with your present you become more aware of your surroundings and less will be your anxiety about the past which is gone for good and that future which is yet to arrive.
Why burden yourself with the moments which are not in your present times like today or right now? Just grab this ‘right now’ moment in your life and feel the difference.!
You shall start enjoying the little happiness when you live in your present and that little adds up to a huge amount of satisfaction and deep enjoyment.
If you constantly chase your future without living this just now time like having 10 minutes daily with your family, kids, and friends, or having a self-care routine you might lose this time that today holds tomorrow.!
3. Live with Less
When you have less in your life it makes you quite mighty in your mind. Avoid going to consume all that you want or can. More consumption means more wastage.
Declutter those extra things that do not bring any real use or value to your life. To practice a slow living life you got to have as little as possible that will be sufficient to have a purpose in your life or something that will be beneficial to you in the long run.
Most of us have this habit of purchasing something that we regret later on. That extra dress from the store you bought is accumulating antiquity in the corner of your closet! So, consumption of minimum just to make your life sufficient will ultimately
4. Do Something that Relaxes your Mind
Make time for yourself to do that task that relaxes your mind. Maybe you love playing your guitar or organizing your home or maybe just sitting at your favorite corner and feeling the time pass by brings utmost joy to your mind!
Do something in your day where you can take off your mind from all the rush of the day and center yourself. Practicing slow living is not a very hard lifestyle. You have to go with the flow.
You may want to do some meditation or deep breathing exercises. Whatever you like to do gives you joy and peace.
5. Avoid Controlling Everything
No one can ever control life. Avoid giving yourself the stress and overwhelm by trying to control everything and everyone around you. We, humans, can never be perfect. We are better with our imperfections!
Life brings us a new situation every day. We all have to take that as a new learning. Trying to control or change that will only make us anxious. Just try to go with the flow.
Practicing slow living is all about taking things as they arrive in your life and remaining cool in every situation. It becomes a lot more difficult to maintain that poise. But we humans are masters of the practice game!
If you remain level-headed at that anxious moment, it will naturally pass away.
6. Go Outside
Nature is a miracle healer of your mind and body. At least once a day go outside and enjoy the sun. Oh! Definitely with a sunshade on:)
Take a swim, stroll around your neighborhood, go morning shopping, or simply bask under the glory of the sun and the fresh nature.
Daily five to ten minutes outside really recharges your mind and body. Just remember to slow things down while you do all these activities. Avoid the rush.
It is true we are all busy and in the morning most of us are in a hurry to get to work or run errands. But just for yourself, you may find that time in your day which makes you enjoy the outside natural sunshine!
7. Declutter your life
Any form of clutter or too much of anything tends to clutter or clog our minds and life. Unnecessary extra stuff lying around that corner of your home will not go to add any sort of value to your life. Rather it will only make you feel anxious about their futile existence.
Cleaning or reducing these extra things out of your home and life helps to slow down the rush you feel in your mind. You will start living with much more freedom in mind and intention.
Decluttering helps to avoid feeling the burden you feel when you think about that desk or shelf or garden asking you to take a look and clean up.
8. Avoid Multitasking
Have you ever tried doing multiple tasks or work in a single moment in hope of accomplishing all?
If yes, how did that make you feel? Most of us may not be able to find the right balance of juggling different tasks we take up at the same time.
For example, maybe you wanted to watch a movie on a Saturday evening but you also wish to cook a lovely meal for yourself along with answering emails from your work.
If you are not a superhuman then chances are most likely you will be unable to put the same amount of focus into each task. Multi-tasking will only make your mind anxious bouncing from one task to another.
You won’t be having fun watching that movie or cooking that meal with intention and love. You will find unable to concentrate to answer those emails properly! Because your mind is not focused on a single work at a time to get it done, but rather bouncing off from one to another with that total intention.
Try taking up one work at a time and only think about that work, nothing else even though you may have many to get finished! This way you will feel more productive and slowing down will make you enjoy everything you do.
Taking these simple steps to take everything in your life at a steady pace does not mean you stop making any progress. Slow living or a simple lifestyle is doing things at a steady slow pace while making the right intention to enjoy every step you take!
Hope these help you to practice a slow living lifestyle making your life happy and healthy.
